Oliver Driscoll Book Cover Series
Interpreted and designed a series of 3 book cover designs based on Oliver Driscoll’s work. We had the pleasure of the author, Oliver Driscoll, visiting our class. He came in with an eco bag and wore a simple shirt and pants, nothing fancy. Just like his writing, he projects a calm and tranquil vibe, which is something I aim to portray in the book covers.

The Famous Friendship
by Oliver Driscoll (Giramondo Publishing HEAT Series 3 Number 5)
This design is based on the scene where Lily squeezes Tom’s hand. I chose to portray this scene because it captures the ambiguity of their relationship - friends or more than just friends.

False Starts and New Beginnings
by Oliver Driscoll
The flower that was once ‘alive’ (the friendship between Rebecca and Mary) is now ‘dead’, like the dried flower that Rebecca sent to Mary.

Details Here and There
The rectangles that are scattered across the page refer to the title “Here and There”. The book cover features the outline of an Aboriginal marker tree. A marker tree is formed by binding young supple branches together so that it grows together in the form of a ring over time. The joining of two plants parallels the inseparable bond between two friends.
Just like how memories are fragmented and incomplete, the images in these book covers are fragmented as well (front and back cover).
